Andrew Utah Loses his Battle with Cancer – A Big Loss for Edmonton A Monster Loss for Alberta’s Black Community!

He is a father of a wonderful boy, and a lovely girl, a husband, and a young man in his mid thirties with a huge ambition, Andrew (pictured with wife) kept going even when confined to his cancer bed.

Some know him as an entrepreneur, others as a community organizer, and others as a DJ , DJ Starbucks, but this morning at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, he bowed to a higher calling, losing his battle with cancer.

A fundraiser was planned this Saturday for him but we will update you on the next moves from the Zimbabwe Community for the celebration of the short but impactful journey of a young community leader gone so quick.

Sifiso Nidza, a close friend of Andrew gasped for words as she could not believed what has just hit the community, she however managed to scramble some words in between her pauses to share with Diversity Magazine, “…he wanted to bring awareness to the stigma of cancer. He looked forward to the future and kept fighting and fighting…”.

Siba Khumalo, the President of the Zimbabwe Community in Edmonton recalled last August struggles to fix the plumbing at their community pavilion at the Heritage Festival and Andrew the saviour took care of the plumbing headaches and told them should you have any more problem, please let me know.

Mr. Jeremiah Mokono met Andrew at the first Africanival, at the time called Afro Fest in Churchill Square and the two click after running their respective booths side-by-side and later on worked together on Mr. Jeremiah Moseti Mokono’s smoothie business called Smoothie Basics. “…Andrew is a young man who will do anything to accomplish his goal,” Mr. Mukono recalls an action oriented young man.

Will keep updating you on the next steps for the celebration of Andrew Utah, the community leader.
