The first ever Sinkunia Community Organization Alberta Culture Days event saw youths involved in lots of different activities; African Arts and Craft workshop, followed by Guatemalan Arts by Visual Artist, Jazmin Juarez, that connected kite making to the cultural celebration of the day of the death.

The event continued with a Jamaican folk song and dance, indigenous talking circle, hip hop artist, short story, a family dinner, and ended with an exciting Soca Dance with Cherelle George, that went wild as all the youths joined in the dance routines, running round the hall to conclude such a fantastic full day of learning about cultures.

There was a screening of different cultures all day for those who wanted to watch. Visual Artist, Elsa Robinson, the Coordinator of the event spoke to Diversity Magazine, “…our goal today is to give a taste of different cultures, and to enjoy and appreciate each others culture…”

Grade 3 student Wadia who has been with the Sinkunia Program for over a year, said she likes the event because of the arts and craft component. While sharing her excitement in the fox painting on her face, she said the next time she comes to the program, she will ask for the painting of a spider.
