On October 5 at the Empire Banquet Hall in Calgary, the atmosphere was electric with vibrant celebrations of Nigerian culture. The occasion was the 64th Independence Day of Nigeria, commemorated with a gala titled *Building the Nigerian Legacy*, organized by the Nigerian Canadian Association of Calgary.
The gala night showcased Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and celebrated the nation’s 64 years of independence. “Nigeria is 64 years old today!” declared the president of the association  to the microphone of the Calgary Diversity Magazine Reporter. “This event symbolizes cultural integration and the spirit of multiculturalism that Canada wholeheartedly supports.”
The evening honored volunteers who have dedicated their time and energy to advancing the association’s various projects, with awards presented to recognize their valuable contributions.
Guests were treated to a feast of traditional Nigerian dishes, including Egusi soup, Jollof rice, and fried rice. The event was filled with cultural performances, including traditional dances and music that captivated the audience. The highlight of the night was an electrifying performance by the renowned Nigerian artist 2Baba, bringing the celebration to a memorable and energetic close.
It was truly a night to remember, celebrating not just the independence of Nigeria but also the strength of cultural unity and diversity.
