On October 27, 2023, the Alberta government announced groundbreaking developments in Leduc through its Affordable Housing Partnership Program.
With an investment of $2 million in the Gaetz Landing project, matched by the Government of Canada, the program aims to provide secure and affordable housing for vulnerable residents.
Notably, 25% of the units will be reserved for women fleeing violence, and 20% will be fully accessible for individuals with physical disabilities.
Jason Nixon, Minister of Seniors, Community, and Social Services, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to expanding housing options across Alberta.
Sean Fraser, the federal Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities, emphasized the significance of the Rapid Housing Initiative, particularly in providing secure accommodation for vulnerable individuals, including women dealing with domestic challenges. Anticipated to open in fall 2024, Phase 2 of the Gaetz Landing project will introduce one-bedroom energy-efficient units, addressing the pressing need for affordable housing.
MLA Brandon Lunty underscored the importance of supporting low-income families and vulnerable populations in Leduc. Additionally, the Leduc Regional Housing Foundation expressed pride in contributing 24 new units through the Gaetz Landing II project, thanks to the collaborative efforts of municipal, provincial, and federal governments.
