Danielle Monique George’s dad won the Clarence ‘Big’ Miller Award over two decades ago, and on March 23, 2024, she too was on stage to receive the same award, bringing out tears of joy that she could hardly hold back.
They opened up with the first Black History Month event in 2024, and they were happy to finish it off in style with the National Black Coalition (NBCC) Excellence Award on March 23, at the Chateau Louis and Conference Centre in Edmonton.
Before the presentation of the awards, a high power inspiring keynote address was presented by the talented Edmonton Comedian, Sterling Scott, the rare comedian to get a golden buzzer at the Canadian Got Talent.
Sterling’s exceptionally, inspiring, standing ovation driven performance was matched by presentation of awards to an equally inspiring group of people making a difference in the community. The annual awards event was spiced up with tears of joy, jubilation from families, friends and fan clubs, cheers, embrace, applause, and motivation for others to keep doing the good work that they do, until they get that surprised call from NBCC’s Vice President, Joy Thomas, which many thought she called the wrong number.
Well, these 14 deserving and inspiring award recipients, in eight categories, were more of right numbers called than they could ever imagine.

L’événement annuel de remise des prix a été agrémenté de larmes de joie, de jubilation des familles, des amis et des fan-clubs, d’applaudissements, d’étreintes et de motivation pour encourager les autres à continuer à faire le bon travail qu’ils font, jusqu’à ce qu’ils reçoivent cet appel surpris du vice-président de la NBCC, Joy Thomas, que beaucoup pensaient avoir composé le mauvais numéro.
Eh bien, ces 14 lauréats méritants et inspirants, répartis dans huit catégories, étaient plus de bons numéros appelés qu’ils n’auraient jamais pu l’imaginer.
