31 alumni from across the world; athletes, artists, builders, caregivers, entrepreneurs, farmers, innovators, teachers, writers, and volunteers, were celebrated on September 19, 2019, at the Jubilee Auditorium of the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Alumni Association President, Heather Raymond, said University of Alberta has produced over 290,000 alumni, and University of Alberta President and Vice-Chancellor, David H. Turpin, stressed their goal of uplifting everyone.

Diversity Magazine will be sharing lessons learned from a select alumni recipient celebrated during the University of Alberta Alumni Awards celebration through short video interviews coming up. Interviews will include Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, Donald Emarson, who revolutionized tuberculosis policy for the World Health Organization (WHO) and across the world; indigenous superintendent Brian Wildcat, who unified four communities into one school district using indigenous values; Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, Ram Deva Mehta, who built the first genetics laboratory in Alberta sharing his success through building schools in marginalized communities in his native India; Education Counselor and volunteer, Lubna Zaeem; Distinguished Alumni Award Recipient, Mona Nashman, Principal of the Islamic Academic School in Edmonton; and another Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, Reza Nasseri, who turned $75 on his arrival in Edmonton into an international construction company with a focus on minimizing environmental impacts.
