Why the 2023 Budget Matters to You?
On April 3, Arielle Kayabaga, the Chair of the Liberal Black Caucus and Member of Parliament for London West, and the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Tourism and Associate Minister of Finance, hosted a virtual roundtable with Black media from across the country to share key measures from Budget 2023.
Arielle highlighted that the budget makes life affordable for all Canadians, “…..It shows that we care about Canadians and we’re doing what they want us to do..…”
Randy mentioned that the budget keeps inflation down, preserves Canada’s triple “A” credit rating, creates new jobs, support to Canadian Universal child care benefit, and provides Grocery Rebates to struggling Canadians.
The budget also provides the following; financial support to Black organizations, mental health support to Black Canadians, foster Diversity and Inclusion, and New Canadian dental care support for people with income below 90K per year.
To put things in perspective….
A $25.4 million investment over five years and $600,000 ongoing for initiatives led by racialized communities to combat and raise awareness on racism and discrimination.
It’s worthy to note that, $83.9 million funding will be allocated over five years and $18.7 million ongoing to launch an independent commission to review any potential wrongful convictions by the court system.
