In the English language, the word “he” is used to refer to males and “she” to refer to females. Well, some people do not identify as male or female, or both. Companies such as Instagram are ahead of the pack by giving options for people to pick their preferred gender; he, she, they, their, them and so on.
Gender neutral pronouns have been created to be more inclusive with terms such as “zie” and “zim” being used instead of he/she and him/her.
