It was an event that brought together; the churches, the youths, the politicians, conspicuously present was MLA Chris Nielsen from start to finish, other community leaders of African descent, inspiring speakers, beautiful arts, eye-catchy crafts, and delicious Zimbabwe dishes prepared fresh from the busy kitchen of Leefield Community Hall in Edmonton, to celebrate the 38th Independence Day of the wonderful people of Zimbabwe origin based in Edmonton.
Following the Lancaster House Agreement of 1979 there was a transition to internationally recognized majority rule in 1980; the United Kingdom ceremonially granted Zimbabwe independence on 18 April that year.
