Before concluding the tour at City Hall, we stopped at her favourite ice cream shop – the Village Ice Cream on 10th Avenue, Calgary. This was a part of the Diversity Tour of Alberta, Calgary leg, through the eyes of Mayor Jyoti Gondek of Calgary. As an ice creamer, who has tried ice cream in every municipality that has hosted this tour, I can say this ice cream was rich, I’m itchy to add that trying Toasted Coconut ice cream for the first time was like an experience in ice cream folklore. We finally reached Calgary City Hall, where the mayor summarized her tour, from the ward she represented as a councillor, home to the historic Buffalo Rubbing Stone, through the office where she started her career, Heritage Square, to City Hall, where she’s now Mayor of Calgary, and running for re-election. It was a fantastic experience sharing her love for Calgary through her favourite places on her journey this far, hosted by Diversity Tour of Alberta, Calgary leg. Avant de conclure la tournée à l’Hôtel de Ville, nous avons fait un arrêt à sa crèmerie préférée — Village Ice Cream, sur la 10e Avenue à Calgary.
C’était une étape de la Tournée Alberta de Diversity Magazine, volet Calgary, à travers les yeux de Jyoti Gondek, mairesse de Calgary.
En tant qu’amateur·trice de crème glacée, ayant goûté à des glaces dans chaque municipalité ayant accueilli cette tournée, je peux dire que cette crème glacée était riche et savoureuse. Je brûle d’envie d’ajouter que goûter la crème glacée Toasted Coconut pour la première fois était une expérience digne du folklore de la crème glacée !
Nous avons finalement atteint l’Hôtel de Ville de Calgary, où la mairesse a résumé sa tournée : du quartier qu’elle a représenté en tant que conseillère, lieu de la Pierre de Frottement des Bisons, jusqu’au bureau où elle a commencé sa carrière, à Heritage Square, pour terminer à l’Hôtel de Ville, où elle est maintenant mairesse de Calgary… et candidate à sa réélection.
Ce fut une expérience formidable de partager son amour pour Calgary à travers ses endroits favoris sur ce chemin, dans le cadre du volet Calgary de la Tournée Alberta de Diversity Magazine.
