The second annual Clareview Village Block Party took place on June 27 in the North East area of Edmonton. It was organized by the North East Community Hub, otherwise known as C5 Hub.
The C5 North East Community Hub is a collaboration between: Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers, Terra Centre for Teen Parents, Norwood Child and Parent Link Centre, Boyle Street Community Services, Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society, and SAGE Seniors Association. They work together to provide programs and services to residents of North East Edmonton such as: Employment Services, Family Services, Housing Support, Children Programs, and Senior Services.
Clareview Block Party gives the community in the area access to crime prevention handouts, free children’s activities, signage, sign-in sheets, discounts from local retailers, give-away items from ENW and other partners. Participants of the block party had fun, met neighbours and made new friends. They re-established old friendships, increase the sense of belonging to a community, encourage neighbours to look after each other and the neighbourhood, promote safety and help prevent crime by looking out for each other. Recognizing faces, increase security in the area by knowing their neighbours’ schedules, as well as learn about their community history is a bonus.
