MacEwan University is taking a turn in its journey on diversity and inclusion. Through its Office of Human Rights, Diversity and Equity, for the first time, this year it did its first celebration of Black History Month. On March 18, 2019, as pictured below, it launched Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Week, taking place from March 18 -22, 2019, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on March 21. A Pound makers drum group kick started the week at the cafeteria area of MacEwan University.

This year’s EDI Week events will showcase some of the equity and inclusion programs/initiatives represented on campus. The next event is with Dr. Wanda Costen in an informative presentation around the gender pay gap in North America. Dr. Costen explores the racial and gender inequalities that have existed for women within the workforce throughout the years and ways such glass ceilings can be overcome.
