A town hall meeting with the Caribbean Community and the Premier of Alberta, Danielle Smith on October 5, 2024.
The meeting was hosted at the Jamaican Canadian Association of Alberta building, facilitating a face-to-face discussion between the community and the Premier of Alberta.
The gathering created the opportunity for the community to present various issues affecting Caribbean seniors, youth, and the wider Caribbean community in Alberta.
The session focused on key challenges faced by these communities, including education, immigration opportunities, and community support. During the conversation with the Premier, participants were able to raise concerns directly, discussing topics such as improving educational experiences, fostering potential partnerships, and overcoming immigration challenges. The dialogue also highlighted efforts to support community values and address systemic issues like institutional racism.
The Premier reaffirmed the Alberta Government’s commitment to improving educational opportunities, streamlining immigration pathways for skilled workers, particularly from the Caribbean, and creating a more inclusive learning environment.

Une réunion publique avec la communauté caribéenne et la Première Ministre de l’Alberta, Danielle Smith, le 5 octobre 2024.
La réunion s’est tenue au bâtiment de l’Association Jamaïcaine Canadienne de l’Alberta, offrant une discussion en face-à-face entre la communauté et la Première Ministre de l’Alberta.
Cette rencontre a permis à la communauté de présenter divers enjeux affectant les aînés, les jeunes et la communauté caribéenne en général en Alberta.
La séance a porté sur les principaux défis auxquels ces communautés sont confrontées, notamment l’éducation, les opportunités d’immigration et le soutien communautaire. Au cours de la conversation avec la Première Ministre, les participants ont pu soulever directement leurs préoccupations, discutant de sujets tels que l’amélioration des expériences éducatives, la promotion de partenariats potentiels et le dépassement des obstacles liés à l’immigration. Le dialogue a également mis en lumière les efforts visant à soutenir les valeurs communautaires et à aborder les problèmes systémiques comme le racisme institutionnel.
La Première Ministre a réaffirmé l’engagement du gouvernement de l’Alberta à améliorer les opportunités éducatives, à simplifier les voies d’immigration pour les travailleurs qualifiés, en particulier ceux venant des Caraïbes, et à créer un environnement d’apprentissage plus inclusif.
